2013 Inaugural speech through a feminist lens

Watching the 2013 Inauguration from a feminist perspective I must say, there is some progress in pushing forth equality. We see this in the way that there are some female politicians in the inaugural. The first lady, Michelle Obama, has become quite the idol. It would have been interesting to hear what she had to say. How would she help Barack through the next term? I was disappointed to see how she just sat in the background with their children. However, I believe that performances  from strong independent women like Kelly Clarkson and Beyonce would be greatly appreciated by feminists.
Through this feminist lens I also noticed that Obama mentioned gay marriage. Obama said “Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law, for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well,”and that is the equality feminists are in search of. He even mentions our equality and how it guided our forebears through Seneca Falls, Selma, and Stonewall . I feel that there are reasons a feminist could be content or unhappy with the inauguration.
