Are you being alienated by the media?

I wanted to talk about alienation from Marxist Analysis. Alienation includes separation and distance it is like a stranger in society with no connections. They have no connection with the people around them and are very secluded and self centered. When we were in our small groups last class we explained it as being more self centered. For example, when you see a commercial for weight loss you start to think, "Do I NEED that"? You always think about yourself. You wouldn't say, "My mom is a little overweight maybe I should show her this". You automatically think these advertisements and commercials are towards you personally. They try to convince you that you need something that you really don't need.

This video is perfect. It takes a famous person like Jessica, and it relates to us by saying how much pressure there is to be skinny and this will work! It is a prime example of alienation. I just thought it was very interesting how she tries to relate to you in today's society. I think it makes it more personal, and it makes you more likely to think about yourself.
