Thanks for stereotyping us

In life there is always a trade-off  something that must be reduced or sometimes sacrificed to achieve a certain goal. That’s just how it works. Television is no exception. To save money or to gain more money something must be reduced. What has been reduced? The quality of the shows we watch. To save a couple of bucks, reality tv and unoriginal programming has grown to an immense popularity. Programming that falsely portrays who we are as a nation. It can be argued that it’s not the responsibility of television to represent us. However what most of us are unaware is that the shows that we religiously follow, are obsess with, and our guilty pleasures are also quite popular in foreign countries. What we watch, others watch too. MTV itself is produced in many countries and the programming is mostly the same. So while we are watching what Snooki is doing, so are our fellow friends across the pond and beyond the borders. Other notable mentions are Honey Boo Boo, the Kardashians and the very infamous music videos, portraying sex, money and drugs.  All which stereotype us to be “ugly Americans”. Is it worth it, it’s our culture and this is we are perceived. 300 million Americans all stereotyped to be idiotic,  shallow, bad mannered, rude, even promiscuous. Have we no say in this? We are the ones watching these types of shows, money is tight but we deserve a better image and representation of who we are.
