The Look Behind Reality

I was in the group that discussed reality TV and how reality TV became so popular.  As a group we came to the conclusion that reality TV is a cheap way to produce television that will take up the empty space on TV.  When producers make a hit series like “Friends”, the producer then has to pay each actor a lot of money just to do one episode.  Today in our group we discussed how “America’s Most Wanted has organized some 22 million viewers into the first nation-wide neighborhood watch association, this causing a debate on whether or not this offers a false sense of localism and education on the law”.  As the group came up with a clear understanding that the majority of us felt like it was a show that really did not pertain to us, one of our group members told us that he knew of someone that was on it.  This led to a discussion somehow on the show the biggest loser.  The biggest loser is a reality show that not only gives the people on the show a chance to lose weight and become healthy but also a chance on winning money.  The biggest loser even gives the people watching the show a chance to win money if they play online.  This is a way that reality TV can “give back” and look good to the public even though the rules of the game say that if you don’t lose enough weight then you are out of the game.
