Oh the inauguration. So much pomp and circumstance for so little requirements. While watching today from a feminist point of view i began to realize just how masculine the entire ceremony was. While the president was the main focus it was amazing to see all of the wives taking a backseat to the festivities. All of them looking adoringly up as their husbands bring home the bacon, and show off their talents. It started to make me wonder if there was a 'wives club' that consists solely of politician's wives.
That got me wondering what that wives club would consist of? Michelle Obama giving gardening tips?
How to tell if your husband is cheating on you? I understand that Mohanty doesn't want to group women together, but suggests that women can be grouped together by their shared experiences. Well being a politician's wife would certainly give these women a plethora of shared experiences. So would Mohanty approve of this group, of the title of these women? I think she would. I think she would want these women to band together and talk about all of the unusual and unique experiences that a politicians wife can have. To be labeled as a politician's wife requires such an amazing amount of poise and, on a level, a lack of authenticity. So to be be in such a trying position absolutely requires some degree of support, and who better to support you then someone going through the same thing. Now that is something Mohanty can't disapprove of, it is one of the more important shared experiences.
