Come on Barbie
I grew up adoring Barbie, so when the article came up this week about the negative side of the Barbie franchise i had to wonder if Barbie had damaged me at all. Do i have negative feelings about the way i look? Sure. who doesn't? But is that Barbie's fault? Probably not. The idea that this oddly shaped toy has given me bad feelings about my body or who i am as a female is something i don't agree with. Maybe is Barbie was the only idea of a girl i saw i would feel differently, but she was one of the millions of different ideas of what a woman should look like that i grew up with. I don't see it as something i should have aspired to be. Have you see the real-life Barbie? (No? Google it.) It's terrifying. People certainly stare, but not for the right reasons. This is not what real women look like! Almost anyone can see that is not what a woman should look like. So to say that Barbie is having such a large influence on girls is something i'm going to have to disagree with.
