Effects of South Park

Growing up I watched a lot of South Park.  I remember watching it to laugh at the  inappropriate language and sexual themes.  As I got older I realized that South Park is full of satire commenting on social and political issues.  Sure its ridiculous and not made for the eleven year old that I used to be, but I grew up a little and realized what South Park is really about.  I really feel like I have learned about people and the world through this show.
I have a few friends back in Virginia who I watched South Park with growing up.  These guys still watch South Park as they did when they were twelve years old.  They laugh at Cartman calling Kyle a "stupid jew" and the boys calling Jimmy and Timmy "cripple" and "retards".  They still haven't grown up and realized that these words are apart of a larger social world and play a huge part in people lives and history.  They then use these phrases in their vocabulary, referring to each other and people in their lives with South Park language.  They do not realize that South Park is making fun of people who think and act in the way these characters do.
I don't think South Park shouldn't be show because of my immature friends.  I think my friends need to grow up.  South Park provides language for them to say hurtful things, but they would probably find a different source of language if South Park didn't exist.  I just hope South Park does more good than bad.  I think it does more good, but I guess I can't be sure.
