Reconnecting
Being from a large extended family, I often find myself at family gatherings where I meet second, third cousins, once, twice removed. And I find it rather fulfilling to put the pieces together, and learning the roots of my family. Having that said, I know my heritage, I know where my family came from. I can eat the food that I eat at home and know there is authenticity to it. I can only imagined what it is not to have that, and I understand the food fetish that Negra describes. Authentic food is food for the soul, and food for thought, it's wonderful that food can evoke emotions and has history of whole cultures. I think it's important that people at least once in their lives try to reconnect or just explore with their own roots, and yes, roots from other cultures, creating bonds and making us better people.
