Media and Culture

These past couple of weeks have revolved around the analyzing of the different aspects that play a part in today’s media and culture. It is no question that they both go hand in hand in order to intertwine and connect each of their outcomes such as the ideology that has developed or hegemony. This class has really allowed me to get a better understating of how media and overall culture has been shaped to be what it is today. Before having taken this class, I literally have never thought or noticed how middle class men were often the “buffoons” of the television show while their spouses were usually the more serious. It amazes me to also know how stereotypes are still seen in today’s society. You would think that they may have diminished as the years have continued to progress but that’s not the case. The clip of a show we saw in class which showed, I believe, 3 different types of banned commercials for tampons (?) really emphasized how stereotyping is still seen. Overall, I’ve really enjoyed this class and have specially enjoyed hearing the different opinions of people regarding different topics. The various topics covered in class gave me a better look into how media and culture have been shaped today and will continue to be in the next couple of years.
