Thinking from the viewpoint of the
Global Feminism Network, I can imagine how they would respond to the
President’s speech. Newscasters
like Mohanty and Linda Nochlin, a global feminist art historian, would have a
great segment that would dissect his speech and see what, if anything, is
relating to global feminism.
Lines
like, “Our journey is not complete until our wives, our mothers, and daughters
can earn a living equal to their efforts,” would be analyzed and picked apart
and viewed through a different lens.
This would make for a great post inauguration segment. It would be interesting to see
them compare the speech to other inaugural speeches from all over the
world. The could debate over what
portions are already being worked on, and what issues addressed need to still
be acted upon in the third world.
Even debates about problems that were not addressed in the speech and
reasons why they were not brought up would make for some great commentary on
the event.
I
would also think that a great guest on the network would be First Lady Michelle
Obama. I think it would be great
to listen to her give her interpretations on the speech, as well as offer her
perspectives on other issues. It
would be a great contrast and compliment to many of the claims of the Global
Feminist Network.
I
think a twitter feed would also be really beneficial to the segment because the
world could give their thoughts on the speech as well as the ceremony as
well. They could give commentary
about people who were singing, the people that were giving speeches, and the
people who were standing around in the crowd.
I
think these decisions would make for an interesting network that would offer a
much different perspective than most networks in the United States. It would be cool to see how they rest
of the world would look at our ceremony, speeches, and traditions, and offer
their views for us to learn from.
