Sitting in my bed sick as a dog, found the inauguration after multiple google searches. The first thing I noticed was the typical obsessive patriotism that was present. This is way it has been for awhile now and the way it's going to be from now on. Everything was flashy and over the top. It was a huge spectacle with the amount of people, media, and high class people present all for a short segment of Obama being sworn in. Realistically, the whole event could have only been televised for a half an hour. But in the typical America fashion we make everything a spectacle because we are the "best."
When looking at the Inauguration from a feminist point of view it wasn't that strongly present but likely more than even before. In the past, the first Lady would not do as much as Michelle Obama does. She actually contributes and helps her husband in his presidency. Which is never uncommon besides a few exceptions. But also in the past, it would have been all men like the Vice President or any other government official but this time it emphasized family. Beside Obama while being sworn in was his wife and two daughters gasping in there fathers' glory.
