Netflix Queue
The activity from last class, where we matched up different types of media and where we would consume them, got me thinking about how selective we really are with our media. Are we really influenced that much by the media or is the media simply a reflection of ourselves. My Grandmother gets Netflix DVDs but doesn't have a computer, so I manage her queue for her. I spend a lot of time thinking about the DVDs I should send her. I either send her movies I've seen and know she'll like or movies that from the description I can safely think that it will be okay. I certainly don't try to expand her horizons or change her thoughts and when I do send her something that she doesn't like because it has too many expletives, uses humor she doesn't approve of, or any other reason, she'll just turn it off and put it back in the mailbox and wait for the next DVD. So, how much of our thoughts are influenced by what we consume? Are we just consuming media that we already have similar ideas to?
