Our Overwhelming Love for Our Nation

The inauguration of any United States president has become a ceremonial day filled with National songs, speeches by National leaders, and the overall theme of the American flag. Monday’s ceremony was no different with the inauguration of President Barack Obama into his second term. The different choices that the government and television network made when producing the event reflect the widespread feeling of pride that American citizens have in their country. For example the television network’s choice to pan to American flags during the playing of the National songs such as “Battle Hymn of the Republic” or “America the Beautiful”. Instead of just focusing on the singer they were showing images of the American flag which in my mind emphasize the patriotism felt in Monday’s ceremonies.

There was also a heavy emphasis on the First Family. Not only was this the television network’s choice but the placement of where the First Lady and her children were sitting (directly behind the President). This is an important underlying message of having a strong family supporting the President, something that wants to emulate throughout the country.
