Laughing for no reason.

I've always wondered where people drew the line in order to call something an appropriate joke. I feel that if you call it a satire then that makes it all ok. I hadn't realize that there were different types of satire. I really enjoyed some of the satires that we vied in class. For example I found the Jim Carrey satire hilarious. I myself am gay and I understood the joke. It's joking about the way that some homosexuals declare they are gay and are very proud of it. I laughed because sometimes I find myself declaring I'm gay so that people don't ever ask me: "So you have any luck with the ladies?" I feel that it then becomes more awkward.
I enjoyed and laughed at the satire because I understand the gay community and I've heard some of these gay stereotypes. I am quite knowledgeable on the subject, but I feel that someone less knowledgeable wouldn't understand the satire. I feel like it would then become funny for all the wrong reasons. I wonder how satires can be created so that someone is able to understand the subject before they laugh at it for all the wrong reasons?
