Celebrity Role Models
The unattainable ideal is a standard that is constantly portrayed in our media by models and celebrities. Celebrities are seen as role models for our youth and are creating standards to obtain. But is this okay? Fans see a celebrity carrying the lastest handbag and want it. This concept is horrible for the fans because they often do not have the means to obtain them. Celebrities live different lifestyles than the average person in America. They have much more money to buy designer clothes and accessories. As well, they often have more free time to work out and sculpt their bodies to be perfect. Viewing celebrities as a reflection of us, is detrimental to citizens. Average people cannot reach the status of celebrities. In order to do so they would need to quit their jobs and work out all the time. As well, they would need to work twice as hard to obtain masses amount of wealth. This catch 22 cycle leads me to believe that celebrities should not be our role models.
