Class Mirage

After being involved in this class i have to say that I am seeing all my favorite television shows in a whole new light. I no longer see shows as funny for the sake of funny; I see that there are messages that need to be examined in the media that should not just be passively accepted. The lessons that will stick with have to be our lesson on class. The concept of a class baboon is something I have never noticed but does make a whole lot of sense. Class is an issue that is beyond relevant today. The idea of class warfare usually scares people off the subject of class but becoming aware of these representations in the media can help make talking about class less of a taboo. Understanding what false ideas about class the public has makes it easier to raise awareness about the divisions that exist in society based on false depictions. However becoming more educated on how to pick up on these messages allows us to become aware of the norms that exist in our society. I am not saying that we always have to be analyzing all of our media but being able have the option is something that I appreciate.
