Overall I enjoyed this class
because I was able to go to class and learn a new concept everyday like Marxism
idea, stereotyping and social structure.
I thought that by going into smaller groups and discussing the readings
was a good way for everyone to be involved in the reading. By having smaller groups like we had, made it
so that everyone had to participate. It
felt more like a conversation than anything else. The way that we followed up by talking
together as a group and watching a clip was beneficial and helped me understand
the concept even more.
What stuck out in this class for
me was when we talked about stereotyping and Marxism. Marxism had to deal with society and the
economy and how culture is shaped on how we are raised and what we see in
everyday life. I believe that stereotyping
is somewhat similar to that. When we read the article on stereotyping by Dyer I
learned that many people pass on stereotyping because of what they see on T.V.
and mass media. Because of mass media
society puts certain people in certain groups, races, genders, and religion.
I thought that both the article
on Marxism which dealt with culture and problems that we still deal with today,
and the article on stereotypes were fascinating and were eye opening. It isn't until you discuss material like what
we read that you fully understand the details behind it. I really enjoyed this class and I was able to
learn a lot that I will take with me throughout my college and professional
career.
