I truly felt this class was very interesting. I tend to have many debates on some of the subjects we learned about, such as stereotyping, social structure, etc. What really helped with new lessons was when we would watch a video, of a television show or documentary, that laid out the lesson perfectly.
The one thing I thoroughly enjoyed was the Marxism idea. When I read the article, I was very surprised how accurate Marx was on society and economy. He makes connections with culture, consciousness, and related problems. Everything in our lives today is shaped by the economic system of our society which, ultimately, affects the ideas that a person has. Mass media does their job of distracting everyone from the realities of our society, such as poverty, racism, sexism, etc, and then "clouds their minds." People today also live in a state of psychological terror. In our daily lives, we are bombarded with advertisements and commercials that cloud minds even more.
The Marxism article was very eye-opening to me, and I was able to use that for many other lessons in the class. Overall, I really enjoyed this class and would love to take another one like it.
