Racism at its Worst
With all of this week’s readings it has led me to think of other countries and societies and how they go about racism. There is not one place that I know of that does not have racism and discrimination. Why is this? What led us to begin this? How did this all begin? Why was difference something so bad and why wasn’t it embraced? It is extremely saddening to me that people can actually have hate toward others who are different from them rather than trying to learn what makes them different, or simply learn what makes them the same. Other countries are even racist against one another so it wasn't just something made in the United States. When we have such things as TV shows that are enjoyable to watch but are also reinforcing racism and stereotypes then our entire country is in trouble. We have learned a lot over the years but I think we need to try and take more steps to step out of this. There needs to be more words spoken out about racism, because though it is there and people are aware, people would rather not speak out on the subject. A good idea might even be to set a day time series with all different races of people, showing racism, how it hurts, and how it can be fixed.
