#cutforbieber

In January of this year pictures of Justin Bieber surfaced of him allegedly smoking weed at a party. With much of his fan base being children and adolescents, this shocked his fanbase, and the twitter account from 4chan, a website that allows the public to post images on "bulletin boards" on topics such as music or photography. In early January 4Chan's twitter account was traced to starting a trend on twitter "cutforbieber" and posted a picture of an arm that was self harmed. The hashtag started to trend and eventually what was meant to be a (not so funny) joke turned into reality.  Fans of Bieber had started to cut themselves, hashtag "cutforBieber" and post a picture of their self-harmed wrist and tweet it. During the whole fiasco I entered "cutforBieber" in the twitter hashtag search and pictures of slit wrists and the hashtag popped up, along with stoners who would post pictures of themselves smoking with the hashtag in mockery of the ordeal. I asked myself the same question, what the hell does a website like 4chan have to do with fucking with Justin Bieber fans? Who knows, but supposedly they're known for stuff like this, such as when they hacked Entertainment Weekly's twitter account and started the trend "#baldforbieber"; A 4chan rep/hacker wrote that Bieber was diagnosed with cancer (which he wasn't) and suggested that fans shave their heads in support with the hashtag "baldforBieber"... I sincerely hope no adolescent girls shaved their heads before realizing it was nonsense. Fans of Bieber are notorious for being insanely obsessed with him and doing things like giving his ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez, death threats for dating him.  When fans of a celebrity begin to widespread injure themselves because the celebrity they are fans of smokes some dope is when you know this lunacy needs to stop.
