Many people tend to complain about the emergence of celebrities like Snooki, Kim Kardashian, and Paris Hilton. However, these people obviously have fans. Why do they have fans? The reality is that they have fans because they are a reflection of our culture. I believe it to be hypocritical to demean these famous people because they are only a reflection of our culture. It is not to say that everyone is like them, but some people are or want to be.
Some of these famous people have achieved their fame. However, people like Paris Hilton are ascribed to it because they are born into wealth. Wealth seems to be the determinant of whether someone is famous or not. There are shows that seem to exaggerate wealth. What does this say about what we value as a society? Are we as a society so fixed on obtaining wealth that we praise those who have it?
